9. First name calling is rude – They might have a great sense of humor, but Belizeans prefer formality when meeting people the first time. It is rude to call them by their first names until you are very familiar with them.

10. Unique national motto – The Belize motto is “Under the shade we flourish,” a modified version of “Under the shade of mahogany tree we flourish.” Mahogany trade was the country’s economy backbone at one time.

11. Tallest building is a Maya ruin – Belize has cities that offer modern amenities, but there are not the high rise buildings that we commonly see in large cities in other parts of the world. The tallest building in the country is a Maya ruin.
